Another throwback piece. This was one of the first 'pots' I was able to throw. It is so rough around the edges compared to ones at the moment. A great learning experience though and obviously a good place to practice with fancy glazes. #ceramics #pottery #glaze #art #colour #practice

I have been reading about wabi-sabi. The Japenese idea that everything has imperfections and that those should be celebrated as a way of showing an items authenticity. This made me think of some of my earlier pots which had lots of flaws and abstractions. I don't ever want truly clean and perfect looking lines, one reason I love abstract art is it's 'realness' and the dirt under the fingernails look of pieces. I guess it would make sense that this attitude would also extend to my ceramics. Now i have a name for it! #wabisabi #ceramics #pottery #clay #pots #glaze #art #abstractart

Finally from today's glaze-athon! The top bowl should have pastel blues (two shades) and white with a banded pattern outside and a swirl inside. The bottom one should be grey and white swirls inside and an overlapping effect on the outside. Again when the fire we shall see how good my glazing has been! Colours used btw are blue yonder and my blue heaven for the blues, cotton tail for the white, tuxedo black ( for the gazelle) and grey hare for the grey. #glaze #pattern #ceramics #pottery #clay

This one again started with some tuxedo black, then sea green and finally a copper adventurine. The effect should be similar to peacock feathers with the green and red mixing to create an organic looking pattern. Again will post when it comes out the kiln and shall see if the theory matches the practice! #clay #ceramics #pottery #glaze #experiment

Combinations of glazes. Base coat is tuxedo black, then an element glaze called black ice followed by a top coat called mirror blue. With any luck the effect should be a black shiny pot with a brilliant blue over line looking like ink spilling from the top.
